Oriol Romeu set to sign for Chelsea

Barcelona defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu is very close to joining Chelsea, according to several reports in Spain. Barca are negotiating with the Blues the transfer of Romeu for a fee worth around €5m to the Catalan club with a buyback option at the end of the next two seasons. After reported interest in Thiago and Villa and the reported signing Barcelona youth Gael Etock, Chelsea seem to have secured the signing of the combative Barca midfielder. Oriol Romeu, born in Ulldecona on September 24, 1991 joined Barca in 2004 from Espanyol. In August 2010, he debuted for the first team in the first leg of the Super Cup against Sevilla. He became a permanent fixture in the Barca B team under the guidance of Luis Enrique and was also used as a centre-back last season. But the presences of Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano have hindered his progress at the Camp Nou. Benfica and Sporting Lisbon have both been suggested as possibilities by Romeu's agent, but it appears now that Chelsea have moved in quickly to land the player.
