Chelsea interested in Magpies midfielder?
The Northern Echo has reported, as have many sources in the last couple of days, that Chelsea may be taking an interest in Cheik Tiote as a replacement for the injured Michael Essien. Tiote would not appear to be the Blues' number one choice - Modric, Parker, Pastore and De Rossi have all been linked in recent times - but you can bet that this is a rumour that won't go away. Tiote, who has been compared favorably to his boyhood idol Essien, was instrumental for Newcastle United in his first season on Tyneside following a £4.5million move from FC Twente. So much so, that in February the club signed him to a contract that ends in 2017. Newcastle have taken the step of stating publicly that they have not received a bid from Stamford Bridge; despite a media suggestion of a £15m offer. With Newcastle already selling fans' favourites Andy Carroll to Liverpool and Kevin Nolan to West Ham, the last thing supporters would want to see is the club cashing in on Tiote. Interesting... one that might grow legs perhaps?
